Humanitarian protection
Humanitarian paths and court representation
U.S. law has paths to protect people in vulnerable situations — and there are processes that run in immigration court, where only a licensed attorney can represent you. This page explains, in plain language, what those paths are and how talking to us works. What you share with us is handled with care and discretion — and we ask only for what is needed to understand your situation.
Asylum
Protection for those who fear persecution in their home country on grounds recognized by law — race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group. There are rules about when to file, and there are exceptions. The analysis of your history is what defines the path — not what the groups say, and not what went viral this week.
T visa
Protection for victims of human trafficking who are in the United States. It allows you to remain in the country legally while the case is handled, with its own eligibility rules.
U visa
For victims of certain crimes committed in the United States who have cooperated — or may cooperate — with the authorities. It also has its own rules and specific deadlines.
VAWA
Creates an independent petition for spouses, children and parents who suffered domestic violence committed by a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. The petition does not depend on the abuser — the person can seek protection on their own, confidentially.
Immigration court representation
When there is already a case in court, the situation changes in nature: there are hearings, real deadlines and direct consequences. And only a licensed attorney can represent you in court. Preparers and “consultants” cannot. If you have a hearing scheduled, talk to us as soon as possible.
Confidentiality, from the first contact
You decide what to tell and when to tell it. The first contact is a conversation protected by professional confidentiality. What you send us is shared only with the team taking part in your consultation, within our legal obligations — and the communication and scheduling tools we use handle that information with care. Documents and identifiers should be sent only through the secure channel our team provides. Service in Portuguese, with people who understand what it means to live through this moment.
